Octave Records released a test CD The Audiophile Reference Disc
PS Audio, an American manufacturer of semiconductor audio components, has released The Audiophile Reference Disc on its Octave Records label. Tracks are available in DSD and PCM formats in resolutions of 24 bit / 192 kHz, 24 bit/96 kHz or 16 bit/44.1 kHz – on laser discs or as files for download.
The Audiophile Reference Disc is updated with a 40-page edition of “Audiophile’s Guide: The Stereo». This is a detailed guide to setting up the system from PS Audio CEO and 45-year audio industry veteran Paul McGowan.
Audiophile’s Guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up the system, starting with channel positioning and phasing the acoustics. According to the authors, the set will allow you to get almost perfect depth, visualization, tonal balance and three-dimensional sound. Special tracks for warming up the equipment are also not forgotten.
The audio tracks for The Audiophile Reference Disc were recorded over four months at Octave Boulder Studios, PS Audio’s Main warehouse (Spatial Sound), and Animal Lane Studio in Lyon, Colorado, USA. In particular, for recording three tracks of testing the depth of the scene, the distance to the sound sources was measured with an accuracy of up to a centimeter.
The cost of a set of Audiophile Reference Disc phonograms in the United States is $30. The complete set, including the manual, will cost twice as much.
