Austrian Audio PG16 and PB17 headsets: Hi-X drivers and “Lift to Mute” mechanics

The Austrian Audio PG16 and PB17 headsets are very similar to each other, but their purpose is still different. The first is designed for computer games, the second – for work.

Hi-X drivers

Both are equipped with 44mm Hi-X drivers, which brought success to a relatively young company with the release of the Hi-X65, Hi-X55 and Hi-X50 headphones. Both models work out the audio range from 12 Hz to 24 kHz. The zero delay is especially emphasized.

The design of new products can be considered classic – in the style of Austrian Audio. These are devices of a closed type, with a folding headband, all critical components of which are made of metal. A high-quality microphone on the boom is equipped with a “Lift to Mute” switch (raise to mute the sound).

7.1 sound emulation

The PG16 gaming headset received 7.1 sound emulation software and various gameplay improvements in the included Spatial Sound Card software from New Audio Technology. The business model PB17 is equipped with soft, slow-hold memory foam ear cushions. In combination with a small weight (265 g), this can provide comfort throughout the working day.

Both headsets are equipped with a 1.5m cable with a 3.5mm stereo jack. It comes with a 1/8″ TRRS adapter for the PG16, while the PB17 has 3.5mm to 1/8″ and USB-A adapters.
