Cary Audio DMS-650 and DMS-800 PV network players: entry level and professional
There are two new products in the series of Cary Audio DMS network audio players: the entry-level model Cary Audio DMS-650 and Cary Audio DMS-800 PV (Professional Version) – from now on the flagship of the line.
The DMS-650 replaced the DMS-550 – the youngest in the Cary Audio catalog. However, the manufacturer felt that the definition of “entry level” for the DMS-650 does not fit. A pair of AK4497EQ Verita DACs allows the system to work with PCM resolutions up to 32 bits/768 kHz and DSD 512. The unit is Roon and MQA certified and streams from Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, Spotify Connect and vTuner.
Cary Audio DMS-650
The DMS-650 has three USB ports and an SD card slot for memory devices. The system is provided with LAN and Wi-Fi, and is also compatible with Airplay. The onboard Bluetooth module provides reception and transmission with aptX HD codec support.
Cary Audio DMS-800 PV
All of these features, but at a higher level, are provided by the flagship DMS-800 PV. It is assembled in double mono topology. On each of the two separate boards is a 4-channel AK4499EQ DAC – so in total it is eight separate DAC channels, augmented by a Crystek clock and working for two separate DSPs. For all this it took 14 power supplies from two independent analog units.
The housing of the DMS-800 PV is slightly higher than that of the DMS-650. Both models received a 5-inch color display with high resolution. Both received cosmetic design changes, traditional for Cary Audio DMS – for example, the frame of the display was changed a little.
Availability and price
The novelties are available in silver or black color. In the U.S., the Cary Audio DMS-650 network audio player retails for $5,995 and the DMS-800PV will cost $14,995.
