Lexus IS Wax Edition gets an audio system with a turntable
The turntable is included with the audio equipment of the Lexus IS Wax Edition. The demo car is based on the Lexus IS model. Probably, this attempt to install a turntable in a car can be considered the first after a long pause, because in the last century they tried to do it more than once.
To install the turntable in the car, Lexus managers hired SCPS studio in Los Angeles. She is known for her creative technical solutions. They can be found both in the products of famous brands and in the largest blockbusters in Hollywood.
It is clear that the soft suspension of the Lexus IS contributes to the maximum of adequate needle behavior in the groove of the vinyl disk. But since this is still not enough, the system was equipped with a gyroscope. It also compensates for the effect of road irregularities – naturally, within certain limits.
The body of the turntable was 3D printed, supplemented with carbon and aluminum. The device took up the entire glove compartment (i.e. the glove compartment). The dimensions are quite large, because the car player accepts full-size 12-inch discs.
According to Vinay Shahani, Lexus Vice President of Marketing, “The Lexus IS Wax Edition represents the ultimate union of our passions, bringing vinyl and cars together in a new way.”
We add that the prototype of the demo car, a 2021 Lexus IS, is equipped with a Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound system. It has 17 loudspeakers with a total output of up to 1,800 watts configured in a 7.1 system.
