HTC Vive Focus 3 and HTC Vive Pro 2 Headsets equipped with 5K displays

In June, HTC will begin selling two updated virtual reality headsets at once: Vive Focus 3 and Vive Pro 2. They will replace the 2019 and 2018 Vive Focus Plus and Vive Pro models. An important advantage of both new products is the increased display resolution.

The Vive Focus 3 has 5K (2448×2448) matrices per eye with a 90Hz refresh rate compared to 1440×1600 pixels per eye with a 75Hz refresh rate for the previous Vive Focus Plus. The Vive Pro will get the same 5K resolution for each eye, but with a 120Hz refresh rate. The previous version of the Vive Pro had a 2880 x 1600 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The field of view has increased from 110° to 120°.

The Focus 3 was equipped with a replaceable battery (it used to be built-in). For better balance, it is now located on the back of the headset. With the new battery, two hours of battery life are promised, and the fast charging system will restore half the charge in half an hour. Instead of the Snapdragon 835, the Focus 3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865.

The Vive Pro 2 will boast Hi-Res Audio certified headphones. The novelty supports three-dimensional surround sound, and any other headphones can be used with the headset. Vive Pro 2 is compatible with Vive SteamVR accessories such as the Vive Facial Tracker and SteamVR controllers.

While the Vive Pro 2 is geared mostly towards gamers, the Vive Focus 3 is designed for the professional market. According to HTC, it was developed based on feedback from car manufacturers, simulation educators, medical professionals and other business customers. The Vive Pro 2 is slated for release on June 4, and the Vive Focus 3 on June 27.

The cost of the Vive Pro 2 without controllers and trackers in the US will be $800, and for pre-order this price has been reduced by $50. The complete set will cost you $1,400. The cost of the Vive Focus 3 is $1,300.
