Audiophiles are well aware of the connectors from Cardas Audio – the company’s cables have earned a lot of rave reviews in the specialized press, and have received the real love of the public. The clear, harmonious and transparent sound of Cardas is difficult to confuse with anything – you fall in love with such a voluminous and precisely layered scene right away.
In this article, we will tell you about the history of the brand and highlight the most important of its developments that are present on the modern market. Let’s reveal the secret right away – not only cables will be on the list! Cardas Audio’s assortment is now vastly expanded to include a number of other interesting products.
Cardas Audio was founded by George Kerdas, a mathematician by education (the second profile of the company’s owner is electronics), who was carried away by High End. In the arsenal of the company now – dozens of patents, and the main principle that guides the company in the development is the famous “golden section” (patent for the production of cables number 4,628,151). Yes, the very thing that was used in the construction of the Cheops pyramids, in ancient Roman monuments, or is present on the canvases of Leonardo da Vinci. The fact is that cables in Cardas Audio are considered as a system of resonances – each of which affects the sound quality. The vibrational system of the connector depends on the quality factor and frequency of the resonator of the conductor in exactly the same way as a guitar string. Adjusted for the fact that in the first case, the impact is mechanical, and in the second – electrical and electromagnetic. Studying these phenomena allowed George to bring his patents to the market and to produce legendary cables based on the Fibonacci sequence.
Cardas Audio uses stranded conductors in a helical design so that the fields in (and around them) are compensated for by the resonator. A huge number of thin veins are used (for example, in the Golden Cross Speaker there are 752 of them), each of which is performed with precision precision (drawing in a rarefied atmosphere through diamond dies). Teflon insulation, litz wire, rhodium-plated copper connectors, pre-silver plated; even a proprietary, ultra-pure four-component solder is used – everything here is of the highest grade. So what will Cardas sound fans do today?
- Cardas Clear Beyond Interconnect Cable
- Power Cable Cardas Clear Beyond Power XL
- Cardas Clear Reflection Speaker Cable
- Power Splitter Cardas Nautilus
- Headphones Cardas EM5813
- Cardas Myrtle Heart Pickup Head
- Vinyl Record Cardas Frequency Sweep LP (Version 2)
To surpass the original Cardas Clear, which received a cult status among audiophiles, was very difficult – it took years of development. This is how Cardas Clear Beyond appeared – a cable with an exceptionally neutral and transparent sound. The first thing that catches the eye when it is included in the system is the timbral reliability and accuracy, but in this regard, there really is enough of a star from the sky. It accumulates all the main developments of the company-starting from the improved geometry of the spiral suspension and advanced terminals.
We will not tire of repeating, it is the power cables that define the entire “strapping” of the system and provide the greatest contribution to the sound of the complex. The new Cardas Clear Beyond Power XL builds on the acclaimed Clear Beyond Power model: it delivers up to 20 amps, uses proprietary Cardas E-5 plugs and delivers a muscular, muscular sound.
An upgrade to the Golden Reference connector since 1998, Cardas Clear Reflection delivers “that” analog fusion sound that captivates from the very first chords. Three assemblies of four packs of 11.5 AWG litz wires (patent 7,674,973 – Matched Propagation Conductor), copper connectors – this is an example of an acoustic cable for centuries.
Five Cardas 4181EU Schuko outlets, each of which can power even a very serious power amplifier, internal wiring from Cardas Ultra Pure Grade 1 cable (10 and 11.5 AWG), full RFI / EMI protection for each outlet and star wiring on a kilogram base made of copper. There is everything in abundance and everything – over the edge.
Serious in-ear headphones – powerful 11.45mm drivers with PEN-type diaphragm and neodymium magnets. Resistance of 32 Ohm provides a convenient docking with a smartphone, a proprietary twisted cable guarantees minimal losses during signal transmission, and the appearance of the model inspires “shock and awe.” These babies know how to bass.
The cartridge body, as the name suggests, is machined from myrtle and the 0.28mm cantilever is made from pure boron. The system is crowned with a diamond nude-line contact needle. The head has an output level of 0.3 mV and an internal resistance of 45 ohms. The frequency response extends from 10 to 50,000 (!) Hz, and the channel separation exceeds 35 dB – the figures are really fantastic; the sound of the head is just as good – cohesive, powerful and refined.
A vinyl record released by the company to warm up the system and identify its shortcomings. Produced by George Kerdas himself – the disc contains many tracks (from pink noise and ultrasound to vocals) that will allow you to “dissect” any complex. The 180 g mastering press in its pure form on the Neuman VMS 66 / Neuman SX-74 is an example of an ideal test record.
