Pro-Ject Releases Special Edition Essential III Turntable for George Harrison’s 78th Birthday

For George Harrison’s birthday, the Austrian company Pro-Ject has released a turntable in a special design. This is the Essential III George Harrison model, on the top panel of which, under the tonearm, is a portrait of the guitarist of the legendary The Beatles. In addition, the entire MDF top panel is decorated with Indian-style motifs – because George was the first Beatles to embrace Indian music and philosophy.

On the technical side, George has a dedicated Essential III turntable with a one-piece aluminum tonearm mounted on sapphire bearings and complemented by an Ortofon OM10 cartridge. The plate rotation system is equipped with a stainless steel bearing, an aluminum pulley and an acrylic disc.

All this drives the DC motor with a new controller, which provides for switching speeds of 33 1/3 and 45.

Since Harrison would have turned 78 on February 25, 2021, it would be logical to supplement the model with a 78 rpm switch – this would distinguish it from a similar turntable that Pro-Ject released in 2017. However, the developers did not foresee such an opportunity.
