Elac updated its Uni-Fi acoustics to version 2.0
Elac has improved on the famous Uni-Fi series of home theater speakers. The result is an updated Uni-Fi 2.0 series. It includes UB52 bookshelf speakers, UC52 center channel system and UF52 floor standing speakers. It is on their example that the changes are most revealing.
Uni-Fi acoustics in version 2.0 received new drivers, waveguides, cabinets and crossovers. Who came to Elac 5 years ago, Andrew Jones has almost completely rethought these speakers. Although conceptually they remained the same: Uni-Fi 2.0 still contains coaxial mid-high frequency drivers – the main feature of the series, starting from its initial version.
In Uni-Fi 2.0, this is a newly developed 4-inch concentric driver with a tweeter the same size as the original, but with a wider surround. According to the developers, it improves its matching with the “ambient” midrange, which received a larger diameter voice coil, a new low-profile frame and a neodymium magnet. Another upgrade – the crossover crossover frequency has decreased by as much as 600Hz, now it is at 2kHz.
A change that immediately catches the eye is the bass reflex port, which migrated to the front panel of the shelf units and floor speakers. Now Uni-Fi 2.0 can be installed in close proximity to the rear wall without fear of possible changes in the bass character. Uni-Fi 2.0 cabinets are made of MDF. Covering – vinyl with black ash texture.
There is also evidence of alternative designs, but not yet live. Inside – a system of struts necessary for the correct rigidity of the structure. The woofer in Uni-Fi 2.0 has an aluminum cone, an enlarged magnet and a large diameter voice coil.
Accordingly, the three completely redesigned drivers required a different crossover. The impedance of the Uni-Fi 2.0 acoustics is now 6 ohms instead of 4 ohms in the previous version. This is for better compatibility with existing AV receivers and stereo amplifiers on the market.
The cost of Uni-Fi 2.0 models for the American market is already known: UB52 shelf units – $600 per pair, UF52 floor stand – $1,300 per pair and UC52 center channel speaker – $400. Acoustics series Uni-Fi 2.0 has already gone on sale.
