Gold DAC with headphones from Warwick Acoustics
At the Chengdu International Headphone Expo, recently held in China, British company Warwick Acoustics introduced the Gold Aperio personal audio system, consisting of full-size headphones and an external DAC unit combined with a headphone amplifier. The manufacturer positions this kit as the ideal choice for professionals to work as reference monitors when processing, mastering and mixing high-resolution music.
The frequency range of headphones with an amplifier extends from 10Hz to 60kHz. At the same time, the system is able to provide a sound pressure of 104dB when connected in an analog way and 106 dB when using a digital switching. The earpads and headband of the headphones are trimmed with delicate sheep skin, and on the ear pads its surface is perforated for better ventilation. A two meter balanced cable made of silver-plated stranded copper with silicon insulation, reinforced with Kevlar, connects to both cups.
Headphone DAC amplifier is equipped with balanced and unbalanced analog inputs. There is also digital switching – USB type B port, RJ45, balanced AES/EBU input and coaxial SPDIF. DAC is built in the “double mono” concept and is capable of processing PCM signals with resolutions up to 32 bit/384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256, both in the DoP format and in the native form. There are also analog outputs – balanced and unbalanced, which allows you to use the component as a pre-amplifier if necessary. The output stages of the device operate in class A and are built on field-effect transistors.
Body is completely aluminum. The power supply unit of the device provides a completely separate power supply to the channels and is reliably shielded from the rest of the amplifier units.
A limited edition version of the Gold Aperio set will be released in the amount of 100 copies, and each will receive a unique number, which will be engraved on a special plate attached to the upper wall of the amplifier case. Gold in the name of the version should be taken literally — the external grilles of the headphones, other metal construction elements and the front panel of the amplifier are covered with 24-Karat gold 99.9999% purity.
The unique finish is made by jewellery Quarter, a Birmingham-based jewellery company. The Warwick Gold Aperio kit can already be ordered. It will cost only 29,995£, and it is not necessary to delay the order, given the limited offer. The lucky owner will receive the ordered rarity at the beginning of next year.
