Goldmund specialists have illustrated the nature of phase distortion
The Swiss company Goldmund decided to explain in more detail the essence of phase distortions and how to work with them in its Leonardo correction system. It was designed to eliminate the phase distortion of speakers caused by X-OVER filters.
Phase distortion, to which our hearing is very sensitive, occurs as a result of non-constant frequency-dependent group delay of sound. For example, in multi-band speakers, the bass speaker lags behind the others due to the large weight of the diffuser. The inherent flaws in sound are just one example of phase distortion.
This phenomenon is clearly shown in the graphs (with audio files attached for listening) on the Goldmund website. The company’s specialists introduced phase distortions of various types into the same Castanet sound track. All this can be listened to and compared with the parameters of the distortion itself. This makes it easier to evaluate the effectiveness of Goldmund technologies that compensate for phase distortion using digital signal processing.
