Sales of vinyl on Black Friday in the United States increased by more than one and a half times
According to the US music market marketing research system called MRC (until recently NielsenSoundScan), the us vinyl market showed impressive growth last Black Friday. In the week from November 27 to December 3, 1.253 million records were sold — an increase of 56% compared to the same period last year. Record sales in the US show such results for the first time in almost 30 years.
As for the leaders of the past “Black Friday”, the first place was the album of Harry Styles (Harry Styles) — 15,000 copies sold. In second place was the song Guaraldi (Guaraldi) “Charlie Brown Christmas Came”. The top three also included the still-legendary band Queen with their “Greatest Hits”. She pushed Billie Eilish (Billie Eilish) and Taylor swift (Taylor Swift) — they were able to reach only the 4th and 5th place.
Discogs, the largest resource of modern musicology, in turn, reported that 11.1 million new and used recordings have already been sold this year — a third more than in 2019.
Finally, statistics from the virtual forum “Making Vinyl” added their fly in the ointment to all this positive: it turned out that almost half of all purchased records have not yet been unpacked by the new owners.
