Kharma Exquisite Midi Grand 3.0: Twin Diamond Tweeters in HPL Cabinets
The Kharma Exquisite Midi Grand 3.0 floor stands have joined the Dutch brand’s flagship Exquisite Collection series. The main feature of these 180cm floorstanding speakers is the Diamond tweeter. In each of the columns there are two such highlights – the tweeters are located in pairs in the central narrow part of the curly front panel. The diamond diaphragm and the entire tweeter design allowed for an upper frequency limit of as much as 90 kHz.
The lower limit of 24 Hz is handled by a pair of 11-inch Kevlar diffusers. Accordingly, a pair of Kharma Omega-7 7-inch drivers are responsible for the midrange. All of this is located in the proven geometry of D’Appolito and, according to the manufacturer, successfully emulates a point source of sound. An accurate and deep scene, “detached” from the speakers, is promised.
The complex shape of the cabinets is realized in the type-setting high-pressure laminate HPL. This housing is as inert as possible, and these properties are enhanced by the fixation of the system on four 8 mm tungsten balls, standing on an aluminum base.
The system in a 3.5-way configuration delivers a maximum of 118 dB – this is with a sensitivity of 91 dB (at 2.83 V / 1 m) and a maximum power of 1 kW. So it is worth carefully choosing an amplifier capable of delivering the appropriate currents to a 4-ohm load. However, a bi-amping / bi-wiring connection is available, for which there are jumpers on the speaker cable terminals.
The cost of the speakers is about $175,000.
