Music First Audio unveils Reference V2 transformer preamp

The British Music First Audio, which released its famous transformer passive preamplifier in 2003, has introduced an updated version – the Reference V2. In fact, the new product from Music First Audio, like its predecessor, is not an amplifier. Its 60-position volume switch uses relay switching of transformer windings. Reference V2 employs low noise, low current, low contact resistance instrumentation relays. The RX63/60 60-winding step-down transformers are mounted in separate shielding housings mounted at right angles to each other on a double layer of rubber vibration isolation.

The Reference V2 features six stereo inputs with balanced or unbalanced XLR or RCA options. There are also four pairs of outputs – via RCA or XLR. The same switching options are provided by the “break” implemented in the amplifier for connecting a tape recorder with a loop-through. In addition to the controls on the front panel, the finish of which is determined by the customer, the novelty is also equipped with a remote control.

Music First Audio is ready to begin shipping its finished Reference V2s to the UK market in September at a price of £6,200 a piece.
