John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps” Album To Be Released In Two Anniversary Editions On CD And Vinyl

Music label “Rhino” has reissued saxophonist/composer John Coltrane’s album “Giant Steps”. The reissue was timed to coincide with the anniversary date – this year the disc turns 60. The album was re-released on CD and vinyl in two special versions. The Giant Steps: 60th Anniversary Deluxe Edition includes the main tracks and eight additional draft recordings.

Also in the Anniversary Deluxe Edition fans will find rare photos, manuscripts (copies) and other interesting bonus materials. For the biggest fans, Rhino has prepared an expanded Super Deluxe Edition with 20 additional alternative “rough” recordings.

Coltrane recorded the album “Giant Steps” in 1959. It was the jazzman’s fifth full-length album and the first work to be released on Atlantics Records. Many music lovers consider the record one of the most important in Coltrane’s discography and in jazz music in general. In 2004, the work entered the US National Recording Registry. Discs and LPs will go on sale on September 18. The pre-order has already been opened.
