Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250 cartridge with Nude Shibata diamond to be released for Beethoven’s 250th anniversary

Ortofon has announced the release of an exclusive MM cartridge of 2M Black LVB 250 vinyl players. The abbreviation LVB in the model name is the initials of the great Ludwig van Beethoven, whose 250th anniversary falls just at the end of 2020. From the name it is also clear that the novelty is based on the flagship cartridge Ortofon 2M Black.

Among the improvements, the 2M Black LVB 250 cartridge received a Nude Shibata diamond on a boron cantilever — the same as in the MC Cadenza Black model. Allegedly, the thin profile of this needle with a polished surface provides an increased contact area, which increases the detail of the sound — especially at high frequencies.

A new damping compound based on a rubber compound with nano-filler Multi Wall Carbon Nano Tubes (MWCNT) also contributed to the sound quality. The manufacturer also mentioned the environmental friendliness of the production of this filler — however, it is unclear how such volumes of the substance can affect the environment.
