Thorens TD 124DD turntable: direct drive, heavy disc and motorized microlift
At the moment, the model is the flagship in the Thorens model range and is built on the basis of the original TD 124, first released in 1957. However, the novelty, of course, does not repeat the original to the last screw — first of all, it is distinguished by direct drive.
As with any Thorens technique, the design of this player is based on a sub — chassis-this time not spring-loaded, but with special rubber dampers. The dampers themselves are adjustable, and it is due to them that the player is built up to the level. For convenience, a bubble level is built into the case. With a player weight of 11.5 kg, the disk has 3.5 kg.
The design of the tonearm is somewhat non-trivial. In the TP 124, the counterweight is used exclusively for balancing the tonearm, and the clamping force is controlled by a small separate lever. Antiskating with a weight and hidden inside the case. The fishing line passes through the sleeve — and, as stated, the material is selected so as to provide a minimum coefficient of friction.
Included with the player are a shell and a lighter counterweight, so that the tonearm will be able to make friends with a variety of cartridges. The tonearm is adjustable in height and azimuth. Effective length-233 mm, effective weight-15 g. Fans of automation will be happy: there is a motorized microlift.
The model operates at two speeds: 33.3 and 45 revolutions. The strobe light starts when you turn it on. Both RCA and XLR outputs are available.
The cost of a Thorens TD 124DD will be approximately 12,500$.
