Orchard Audio PecanPi Rev 3.0 will get auto-switchable S/PDIF input

The American company Orchard Audio announced the updated PecanPi Streamer Ultra DAC, Streamer and Streamer Ultra in version 3.0. These network audio players with DAC and headphone amplifier are still based on the PecanPi DAC board, which Orchard Audio also sells separately. As before, in the new products it is supplemented by Raspberry Pi and Asus Tinker Board single-board computers.

The Streamer model works with software platforms such as Volumio, Roon, PiCorePlayer (Squeeze Audio Device) or moOde Audio. A future user will be able to install any of them to choose from. At the same time, the addition of a 5-inch touch screen on the front panel (Streamer Ultra) and an S/PDIF input turns the Streamer into a completely independent and self-sufficient device.

Its rear panel features Ethernet, USB, XLR, RCA ports and a power jack. S/PDIF input (coaxial) just allows you to use the Orchard Audio PecanPi Rev 3.0 standalone. The auto-switch feature returns the device to streaming if there is no signal on the S/PDIF – and vice versa.

So the input selector is essentially not needed. In addition, the Orchard Audio PecanPi Rev 3.0 has linear low-noise signal regulators that provide the functionality of a preamplifier.

Sales of new products from the updated Orchard Audio website are scheduled for March 2022. In the US, Orchard Audio PecanPi DAC Rev 3.0 will cost $350, Streamer Rev 3.0 will cost $650, and Streamer Ultra Rev 3.0 will cost $950.
