“Songs of Disappearance” with the singing of endangered birds entered the top five ARIA albums

In the charts of the Australian Association of the Recording Industry – ARIA – the album “Songs of Disappearance” unexpectedly reaches the first place. It is a collection of music mixed with the singing of endangered Australian birds. It is worth considering that not all Australian birds are euphonic – what is one kookaburra worth.

Co-author of the album, wildlife sound engineer David Stewart admits this. Stewart’s collection contains thousands of bird voices, which he recorded over 40 years of his work. His recordings were arranged by Simone Slattery, one of the co-founders of The Bowerbird Collective. Through the efforts of this group of scientists, musicians and conservationists, the album “Songs of Disappearance” was recorded.

The disc will allow you to hear the singing (and not only) of 53 Australian birds from the endangered species. The title track, arranged by Simone Slattery, features singing and other sounds from all 53 endangered species featured on the album. As a result, “Songs of Disappearance” became the first release of its kind to make it to the top five ARIA albums. The album sold over 3,000 copies and topped the charts for Mariah Carey and ABBA.

Birds are original artists” – said Stephen Garnett, conservation professor and co-author of the album. “They’ve been singing for millions of years … and now they’re going, and there’s a whole lot that we’re not going to have with us if we don’t do something about them.

The album can be bought both on disc and immediately in FLAC. The digital download will cost AU $ 9.99 (about US $ 7).
