Symfonisk lamp-speaker from Ikea and Sonos officially presented

Ikea and Sonos have unveiled the second generation of the Symfonisk, a desk lamp speaker (not to be confused with the Symfonisk photo frame), which is promised “new acoustic architecture and updated design with a choice of shades”. Before that, there were many leaks of information about Symfonisk – now everything is known from a more official source.

As expected, the “lamp” itself will be sold separately. Optionally, it will be possible to add a glass or fabric lampshade to it. As for color solutions, the future owners of Symfonisk were offered to combine white with black.

But this version of Symfonisk supports both Apple AirPlay 2 and Sonos branded multiroom. The housing has a dedicated waveguide for “wider, room-filling sound”.

Symfonisk is more versatile as a luminaire, according to Ikea, as it “supports a wider range of bulbs thanks to the added E26/E27 socket”. In addition, in the new version, the controls have been transferred to the body of the device, since now it has no base.

The new Symfonisk will hit Ikea stores in the US and “select markets in Europe” from October 12th. The Symfonisk lamp itself from Ikea and Sonos will retail for $140 in the US, a glass shade for $40, and a fabric shade for $30.
