Thorens TD124DD SPU turntable: brand classics and direct drive
Thorens has introduced a modern version of the classic Thorens TD-124. The new product, called TD124DD SPU, will be released in a limited edition, largely retaining the design of the original classic, which began production in the late 50s. According to the company, the design has received significant improvements, chief among which is the replacement of the belt drive with a High Precision direct drive.
The novelty will be complemented by an external power supply. The aluminum chassis is height adjustable. The rubber elements of the supports are designed to dampen unwanted vibrations. The abbreviation SPU added to the name denotes the type of cartridge – the set includes the SPU Ortofon head. The output signal is provided on unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR connectors.
Each Thorens TD124DD SPU turntable will be delivered in a special case with an original certificate. The appearance of the novelty in the United States at a suggested retail price of $14,000 is scheduled for late 2020 – early 2021.
