OPPO Helps Establish AQS Sound Quality Standards Community
OPPO has announced a partnership with the Chinese Audio Industry Association and other leading market players to create an Audio Quality Society (AQS). This association will be another step in the development of the audio direction in the era of 5G communications.
The AQS community brings together device manufacturers and component suppliers, audio chip manufacturers and professional testing organizations. Initially, the Community included: Bestechnic, China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI), Edifier, HiBy, HiVi, HIFIMAN, Knowles, MediaTek, Savitech, Xiaomi and Vivo. As a co-founder and key technology partner, OPPO will become a permanent managing member of AQS.
In the past few years, inconsistencies between Bluetooth audio standards and audio codec formats have resulted in degraded wireless audio quality. The standards generated by the AQS Community will help address this issue by improving headphone and smartphone compatibility. In the future, the organization’s developments will improve the sound quality and ensure a comfortable use when listening to content.
OPPO’s head of audio, Liu Jia, said the company has laid a solid foundation for quality audio products since its MP3 and DVD players, which have won numerous industry awards and are included in world rankings for excellence.
“We hope that the creation of the AQS Community will allow us to create a single platform for fruitful cooperation between market participants. We will actively work with partners to jointly develop and promote more stringent testing standards, which will accelerate the innovative development of the audio ecosystem”, said Liu Jia.
To provide professional grade audio users, AQS technical standards will target six major areas. The electroacoustic communication standard will ensure high quality voice calls through wireless stereo headphones (TWS) and will include 13 types of tests. The Musical Sound Effects Standard will support the High Resolution Low Latency (LHDC) audio codec, as well as the accurate assessment of subjective and objective sound parameters. In addition, the AQS standards impose more stringent requirements for noise cancellation and the quality of the Bluetooth wireless connection, which will allow users to enjoy listening content without extraneous noise and interference.
A developed interactive user interface test is responsible for the comfort of operating the headphones, which guarantees intuitive control of the devices. The test program includes three key scenarios – listening to music, making calls and calling a voice assistant. AQS technical standards will cover all stages of wireless audio transmission: from signal formation and transmission, its reception and processing, to decoding and playback of sound through a speaker. The result is high quality, immersive sound and the ultimate audio experience in the 5G era.
OPPO has been listening to the needs and preferences of users for many years, offering the products and services they need. Drawing on a wealth of experience in acoustic technology, the company is making a huge contribution to shaping AQS technical standards in three main areas, including Bluetooth codecs, signal transmission and musical sound effects, to improve headphone connectivity to smartphones and other sources. Based on the current situation, OPPO expects that in the near future, a new generation of smartphones and audio components of mid and high end will fully comply with the standards developed by AQS.
