Rockport Technologies Taurus: Center channel with beryllium tweeters and carbon fiber drivers

The company Rockport Technologies introduced the Taurus center channel system – it is claimed that it will fit almost any speaker of the brand. Particularly noted is the ability to adjust the sound directivity.

This can easily be done both by using a low base stand to mount the Taurus in a shelf, and by using a proprietary rack for floor placement. In either case, according to the manufacturer, the Taurus is designed to be installed right up against a wall.

The Taurus center channel system is three-way, which is not often found in this class. A pair of newly developed 7″ vented voice coil woofers on titanium frames are responsible for the bass. The sandwich cones of these speakers are of variable thickness.

The middle frequencies are handled by a proven proprietary driver, also with a carbon fiber cone. The upper frequencies are handled by a custom beryllium tweeter in a small waveguide.

According to Rockport Technologies, the new product is designed to work with Atria II, Avior II, Cygnus or Lyra branded home theater systems. The system is already available for pre-order, with delivery promised in September.
