Tronsmart Onyx Apex wireless earphones are a novelty from famous Chinese manufacturer that have received a number of interesting functions, long battery life, stylish appearance, convenient touch control and even quick charging in which in 10 minutes you can extend the listening pleasure by as much as 1 hours.

Packaging
Like all Tronsmart products, Onyx Apex comes in a sturdy cardboard box in the company’s colors. The entire box surface is occupied for placing useful information.
Inside, in a plastic box, 3 pair ear pads of different size, Tronsmart Onyx Apex headphones and a box for storage and charging. Under the plastic box, there is a Type-C charging cable, a warranty card and instructions. The earpads moderately elastic, so they hold well in the ears and do not cause discomfort.
Design
Tronsmart Onyx Apex made of glossy black plastic, so all marks and prints are visible at once. On the outside there is the manufacturer’s logo, at the same time this area serves as a touch button. A LED indicator for the operating mode is installed just below the touch button. The leg with the microphone located at the end is not as long as it seems, so the headphones fit snugly in your ears.
On the inside there are 2 contacts for charging. The sound guide is rather short and oval in shape, so it can transmit the entire sound mass while listening to music almost without loss. The end of the sound guide is covered with a plastic mesh, not the best solution, but do not forget that this is a budget gadget.

Under the hinged cover, you can find 4 LED indicators indicating the charge level of the built-in battery. And judging by the characteristics, as much as 400mAh. On the back you can see the Type-C connector for charging the battery. The lower part also partially shows the characteristics of the box. It may seem to you that the lid does not fit snugly against the case, but this is just a design move for better grip when opening.
Under the hinged cover there is a box for installing the charging and storing the headphones. The patterns are individual and marked as “L” and “R” therefore it will be difficult to confuse them.

Connection and controls
Tronsmart Onyx Apex connect to the smartphone fairly quickly and are identified as “Tronsmart Onyx Apex”. You can also enable “use high quality APTX audio” here. In previous models, a fairly convenient app was used for flashing, updating, configuring and controlling the manufacturer’s audio gadgets, but unfortunately Onyx Apex do not have access to it. Perhaps in the future they will appear there.
The headphones support wireless Bluetooth 5.2 and work with SBC, AAC and aptX codecs. The range of pairing and operation does not exceed 10 meters, while they work perfectly through 1 wall.
Tronsmart Onyx Apex are capable of working in both mono and stereo modes, while one can be charged, and the other can be used to play music. As such, setting and changing control is not provided, so we will consider standard control tap. The touch buttons work quite clearly, there are no phantom responses, to the control quickly get used to.
Note: If you are experiencing freezes or any other problems you can do a master reset. for this you will need to put the headphones in the case and hold down both touch buttons for more than 5 seconds, after which the LED indicators will notify you of a reset to factory settings.
Controls:
- Power on – press and hold for more than 3 seconds;
- Off – press and hold for more than 5 seconds;
- Start music or pause – double tap;
- Answer the call or hang up – double tap;
- Reset the call – press and hold for more than 2 seconds;
- Change the noise cancelling mode – triple tap.
Control from the left earbuds:
- Selecting the previous track – holding the left earpiece for more than 2 seconds;
- Volume down – single tap on the left earpiece.
Control from the right earbuds:
- Select the next track – hold the right earpiece for more than 2 seconds;
- Increase the volume – single tap on the right earpiece.
Noise canceling effects
Noise canceling effects work in 3 modes: full off, noise reduction and transparency mode.
The active noise canceling mode is present, but not as much as in the more expensive versions of the manufacturer. Still, a little something is missing and at certain moments sounds from outside (from the street) slip through, but this is more prone to a noisy street environment where car traffic, loud voices or advertisements are oversaturated. In a calm environment without oversaturation of extraneous noise, the Tronsmart Onyx Apex perfectly suppress phantom sounds.
The transparency mode has been perfectly worked out by the manufacturer on previous models, so there are no complaints about the Onyx Apex. You will be able to keep the conversation going without being distracted by the music that will be played through the headphones.
Autonomy
The declared capacity of each earphone is 35mAh, and the charging case is 400mAh. Working at an average volume of 50%, we got about 4+ hours. In our opinion, this is a very good result for such a battery capacity. Using the case, you can increase playtime several times and enjoy music up to 24 hours. The manufacturer also provided fast charging, in just 10 minutes of charging you can get another 1 hour of playback.
Sound
For the sound quality in the Tronsmart Onyx Apex are responsible well-known for many Tronsmart earbuds 10mm customized dynamic drivers, which will not disappoint you, especially if you consider the price for which you can buy this earbuds.
In short, we can characterize Onyx Apex sound with a predominance of mid and low frequencies. High ones, of course, are present, but not in the amount we would like. The mids fill almost the entire sound stream and almost overlap the high frequencies, so you will have to control and add them through the settings.
Low frequencies are present in sufficient quantity. The drums perform well in most styles of music, from rap to hard rock. Sometimes low frequencies can be quite strongly expressed from the general flow, and even at maximum volume, we didn’t get any speaker rattles. This is a very good result for this price category.
The high frequencies sound quite pleasant, although they are not distinguished by anything special, we would like to have a little more range in this register. However, don’t forget about the price.
Conclusions
Tronsmart Onyx Apex are great earphones that can compete with more expensive competitor without losing in sound or performance time. Tronsmart has once again shown how can make a really convenient, well-designed product with great sound for really acceptable money. If you need technology, nice sound and reasonable price – Tronsmart Onyx Apex is definitely your choice.
