Netflix Denies Apple Headphone Surround Testing Rumors
In January, we wrote that Netflix may have started testing the surround sound feature for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. These were just rumors. And they turned out to be false.
The service representative said that his company is currently not engaged in 3D sound for devices on iOS 14 (as previously stated). Moreover, Netflix has no plans to work on spatial audio for Apple headphones for the foreseeable future.
At the same time, the company said that rumors about testing new audio-related technologies were not an absolute dummy: it turns out that Netflix did test a “new” surround sound, but it was about some kind of multichannel technology for built-in TV speakers. According to the company, this is only part of the overall plan to improve the service.
Recall that Apple patented its own surround sound technology last year. It is this system that could form the basis of Netflix 3D sound for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max headphones. Apparently, it’s not worth waiting for this yet.
