Resonado Labs has developed an unusual flat speaker with one coil and two diffusers

The American company Resonado Labs offered an alternative version of the speaker. Instead of the traditional design with a diffuser and a sound coil on two suspensions, internal and external, the Resonado offers two oppositely directed diffusers powered by a single sound coil. Moreover, the coil was made flat and placed between the rod magnets. The design was named Flat Core Speaker (FCS).

The technology in its” pure form ” debuted at CES 2020. This year, Resonado presented at the exhibition concepts of speakers based on FCS – options for an outboard and smart speaker. Prototypes of floor acoustics and a flat subwoofer with FCS drivers are already ready (at least in the renderers).

It is clear that such a bi-directional emitter will be especially good for dipole-type acoustics. It provides an almost uniform radiation pattern. At the same time, the driver itself turned out to be flat and, importantly, easily scalable — it is easy to dial a flat panel of any size from the FCS speakers.

The appearance of a new technology in real devices is possible soon. Resonado Labs plans to distribute its technology by selling licenses for the production of FCS drivers to speaker manufacturers in two versions: the basic FCS SingleCore and the dual-drive FCS DualCore. It is also important that the replication of the new product does not require any new technological equipment and materials.
